This is one on how I paint my faces.

I used openCanvas 4.03 Plus, but this technique can be used on other art programs.

I finished this very early in the morning... Just wanted to get it over with.

NOTE: When I say "blend" I mean use the same brush. DO NOT USE A SMUDGE TOOL! :C

this looks tough. so you don't keep a copy of the lines on another layer?(I'm not familial with opencanvas) looks like a good way to break out of the rigid outlines I use though : O thanks for the tutorial.
